Posting on a SATURDAY?!
What a LAME, huh?

Well, let's see. The town I live in is boring, basically all of my friends are busy today, and Jane is with half of my friends at a girly Princess House party. WIN.

or FAIL.

Anyway, speaking of Jane, she gave me one of her Moleskines to sketch in, and here are some examples.

the cover.

As you can tell from the cover, I started drawing in this when I first started playing Rocket Slime on my DS, and I was a little obsessed.

The suckiness of the above drawing soon doused my obsession.

It IS my favorite sweater, my Blue's Clues Steve sweater.

I have no idea. I didn't even like the Swarm when they were around in the late 90s. This is just what I saw when I closed my eyes.

This was supposed to be an exercise in line control, then marker control, and when I failed at that, it was supposed to be me eating a poptart and then when THAT failed, it became bigfoot eating a poptart. Same thing though.

This was an exercise as well, in drawing a blob shape with sharpies and then doing an offset, mid-century, Monsters Inc.-concept art black line shifted to the side type thing. This one was only a KINDA FAIL.

Not even my favorite imaginary friend, just the easiest to draw from memory. Apparently he's high?

Another exercise. I don't get it either.

The next couple of ones need an explanation. So, I went to the Portland Zine Symposium last year with Jane, and met a really cool kid named Noah Dorsey. I bought his zine
"I can't wait to be me again" which is basically about life, obsession, and Dr. Mario.

I recently picked it back up again, and loved it, again. So, reading this, it inspired me to try to draw the good Dr. from memory, and this happened

and then, I was listening to Panda Bear's "Take Pills" a lot, and all these things together made this happen.

I like it, except the shading on his nose.

Also, Noah is working on an actual good old fashioned HAND DRAWN animated film, Nathan & Nordrich, with only his girlfriend's help, as we speak. Seriously impressive.

Trailer.

And here's a behind the scenes thing.

I can't wait to see it. It reminds me a lot of The Point!, and not just because of the Harry Nilsson song, but because the animation, and, according to Noah, The Point! film was also basically animated by two people. If he had a premiere in Portland I'd actually fly out there for it, that's how much I like it. Well, plus, it's Portland. If someone offered me a free hamburger in Portland I'd fly out there for it, it's PORTLAND.

And speaking of hamburgers, you know fat guys have to sketch about food, so here's a parting shot.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

when carl and I take long road trips we listen to the point all the way through. I like to watch the movie every now and then. "me and my arrow" is my favorite.

here is a drawing noah gave me on my 18th birthday (along with a copy of his masterpiece, plastic figures on a cake in september), of me taking a ride on goat-noah. he drew it because i used to make him drive me around everywhere, and i joked that he was my goat slave:

goatnoah

that is an extremely accurate rendition of me as a 17-year-old. i love noah!

also, free burgerville cheeseburgers AND vietnamese sandwiches for you and your lady any time you feel like jetting over to pdx. i really want you guys to come for the symposium this year, i'm getting a table!

Hahahah man that drawing fucking rules. I think Mayzie on the goat-Noah should be an easter egg on the DVD or something. And about PDX, I was gonna skip it this year and go to Comic-con, but then I realized that I just need to be in Portland again, so we're trying!

ohhh hahahaha princess house! My gramma used to throw princess house parties. I wasn't allowed to touch anything and once, some lady gave me a tiny little crystal bear necklace for being awesome. aww, that trailer totally DOES look like the point. The way everyone is one color and the music... gosh i love that movie. I was JUST talking about how I'm sad that there aren't hand drawn (or painted) animated movies anymore.. and if there are they are few and far between. Stupid CGI... dumb computers. :(

First of all, DR. MARIO!!! I LOVE that game, you have no idea. I never get to play it, ever!! No one will ever play with me and one player is boring. My best friend Beverly plays with me though!!! Except I only see her every once in a blue moon. :( And so that's really the only time I play. We had planned on playing it when I was in Omaha, but were so busy, and then on my last day there I woke up and realized we hadn't yet! We were supposed to go to the zoo before I took off from the airport, but we had to play some Dr. Mario. We didn't get to play too much though, which made me super sad. :( THEN just last night, Brock and I just discovered that they released Dr. Mario on WiiWare (you can download games onto your Wii) so we downloaded that shit!! AND you can play ONLINE!! Do you know what this means?! People have to play with me!! I am now totally addicted.

So anyway, see what you started by mentioning Dr. Mario? I just cut myself off too, I could have gone on and on about it. I need that zine!!! Now I have to come visit you guys so I can read it. ;) I love your Dr. Mario and I really love the picture you drew while listening to "Take Pills". It looks like a poster. And I think the shading on his nose is great!

The cover of your Moleskine is awesome and I am sad that I don't have a DS. Someday I will! I love your favorite sweater and I LOVE the hand you drew in that picture. (That reminds me, I forgot to mention that I was very impressed with the hands you drew in your last post. I suck at drawing hands!!) Also, Yay Bloo!! Who is your favorite friend, by the way?

And last, thanks for posting those videos. I can't wait to see Nathan & Nordrich! I love the way the animation looks. Seeing people do things like that make me itch to have a project of my own. I don't know what or how or any of those important questions, I just get crazy to create and work on something that means a lot to me. I think there's more to it, but I always have problems explaining myself, so hopefully you just get what I mean.

Dude don't worry, I get ya I get ya. Hahahah and I literally LOL'd when I read
WiiWare (you can download games onto your Wii) so we downloaded that shit!! because I just don't imagine you being a swear-slinger like me. It's so funny! And don't mention Wiis to me. :*(

RIP Jared's Wii...April 2008-- June 2008.

I have to sell it sometime next week so that I can pay for some immigration stuff. But it's totally worth it.

I'm glad you liked that Dr. Mario picture, it's my favorite too, in that moleskine. And if you ever do hang out with us, you have to read that zine, it's so funny. You might be able to order one from Noah, just check his myspace. I love Dr. Mario too, but it is boring with just one player.

Bloo is awesome, and so are the rest of the guys, but my favorite all time Imaginary Friend is Bloppy Pants. He's the lead singer of a band called Pizza Party! I mean, c'mon! Have you ever seen that episode?

Hahaha, I actually fling the f-word around way too often (I mean "fuck", not like "flamingo" or any other f-words you might be mistakingly thinking of) among other such swears.

That is the saddest fucking thing I ever read, that you had to sell your Wii. :( It's ok, you'll get one again someday. And like you said, it's totally worth it.

Believe it or not, myspace always confuses me. I would have to get an account to ask him on there, wouldn't I? Well, I have already decided I have to come visit you guys eventually, so I can read yours. And then I might have to decide to figure out how to order it from him anyway, if it's that good. ;) And yes, Dr. Mario is SO boring one player. Bleh.

Aah! Yes! Pizza Party!! Of course I have seen that episode and Bloppy Pants is awesome. I don't know who my favorite friend is! Not Uncle Pockets though.. he is creepy.
